Print Lamination Types

Adding lamination to your custom flyers and leaflets has many benefits. Lamination can add a pleasant feel and silky smooth touch, it can protect against easy tearing and ripping and can enable other finishing techniques, like Spot UV.

Lamination is achieved by adding another material to the top most surface of your printed leaflet or flyer. This can be one side, or both sides. The additional material is bonded to your flyer / leaflet with heat, pressure or both, to ensure a snug fit.

We offer 4 types of lamination for your printed leaflets and flyers. Take a look at the various print lamination types and their pros and cons below…

Print Lamination Types For Leaflets And Flyers

Gloss Laminated Flyers & Leaflets

Gloss lamination is very popular for leaflets and flyers. Glossy leaflets are very eye-catching and visually arresting, as they are shiny! It’s also a cost-effective lamination style, so will help keep the cost of your leaflets down.

The main disadvantage to gloss is, ironically, the glossiness. Whereas it catches eyes, it also catches the light, meaning that any scuffs, fingerprints, cracks etc. will show up.

Matt Laminated Flyers & Leaflets

Another cost-effective lamination technique, matt laminated flyers have the opposite finish to gloss laminated ones. Instead of a shiny finish, these flyers and leaflets will take on an elegant, sophisticated, subdued look.

As the colours appear softer and blended, they won’t ‘pop’ like gloss laminated leaflet designs will. So if you’re looking for vibrant colours – it’s better to opt for gloss.

Silk Laminated Flyers & Leaflets

Silk lamination is the most popular type for custom flyers and leaflets. The silk laminate provides a silky smooth feel with a sheen, not a shine. This means you’ve got the advantages of gloss, without the bright light reflection.

Silk is more expensive than gloss or matt, but still more cost effective than its more luxurious counterpart – soft touch. So if you’re looking for some elegance on a smaller budget, opt for silk. (Fun fact – silk is the stock most used for business cards, as it gives a professional finish).

Soft Touch Laminated Flyers & Leaflets

The most luxurious – best for luxury flyers and leaflets. All the benefits of matt but with a soft, velvety feel. Soft touch laminated flyers are ideal for promotion high end products and services.

The downside to soft-touch lamination is the same as the downside for matt – if you need your colours very vibrant and ‘popping’, go for a glossy finish. Soft-touch is also the most expensive option for your custom flyers and leaflets.
